Please join us Wednesday, December 7 for Greenwood Connect YP Strategic Planning for 2012!
Chamber and community members are invited to help plan the 2012 structure and calendar of events for Connect YP on December 7, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Cancer Center Conference room at Self Regional Healthcare. Connect YP is Greenwood’s premier young professionals organization, building Greenwood’s future business and civic leaders through events and training sessions based on three main pillars: Social/Networking, Professional Development, and Service to the Community.
Recent professional development sessions have included “Creating Your Career Development Plan” and “Staying at the Top of Your Game” with Lisa Bartanus of Piedmont Technical College, and “Smart Finance for Young Professionals” with Melissa Bane of Countybank. Connect YP also partners with the Chamber of Commerce on the annual “Greenwood Under-40 Stars Awards” as a way to support and recognize upcoming leaders in the community.
Service-based events have included Adopt-a-Highway clean ups, a United Way “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive, ice cream socials at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, food bank drives, “Karaoke Wars” fundraisers, and “Casino Royale” Game Night, also a fundraiser. Local nonprofits that have benefited from Connect YP fundraisers in the past few years include the Humane Society of Greenwood, Sexual Trauma and Counseling Center, A Child’s Place, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Food Bank of Greenwood County, and Miracle League at the Burton Center.
Social/Networking events focus on getting out and meeting others while enjoying all that is available in the Greenwood community. Recent Social/Networking events have included CYP Night at Greenwood Community Theatre, bowling and roller skating socials, Shag Lessons with Dale Smoak, a Spring Formal at The Museum, Grilling 101 with Divine Smoke, Sushi Rolling with R3 Catering, and High-Gravity Beer Tasting (recently in its 5th year).
Connect YP is targeted to young professionals age 21-41, but those over 41 are encouraged to continue as “Connectors,” participating in all aspects of Connect YP as guides and mentors. Membership for ages 21-41 in the coming year is only $35 per year, $25 for students and Connectors. Corporate membership is also available for local businesses to sponsor 4 to 10 individual members and connectors.
The December 7 planning session will be facilitated by Claire Kuhl of V&R Consulting. Chamber members, Connect YP members and Connectors, prospective members and Connectors, as well as community leaders and local business owners are all welcome to participate in planning for 2012.
