Greenwood South Carolina Rotary Club

Greenwood South Carolina Rotary Club

Message from Claire Kuhl at the Greenwood Rotary Club: Because I know you to be a caring and committed person, I hope you’ll consider joining the Greenwood Rotary clubs in the “Feed the Hungry” event described below. We plan to prepare more than 20,000 meals to feed the starving in Africa… all in about two hours. Each meal package feeds four people a nutritionally balanced meal. It’s a fun, noisy time that will leave you feeling like you’ve done something wonderful and made the world a better place! It’s like a crazy “factory” with lots of teamwork and rowdy fun. Kids 12 and up are welcome, so bring the whole family! What a great way to show kids how to make a positive difference in this world and have a good time doing it.

On Saturday morning, January 21 at the American Legion the Greenwood Rotary Club and the Emerald City Club are going to join together and pack 24,000 meals to be sent to Ghana. Much of sub-Saharan West Africa has experienced severe drought recently. We will also have help from the Greenwood High and Emerald High Interact Clubs.

We will begin the Orientation for packing the meals at 8:45 AM and plan to start packing by 9:00 AM. If we can get 75-80 volunteers we should be able to pack the meals in two to two and a half hours. We could also use some help at 8:00 AM to unload the food and the packing supplies.
Contact Claire Kuhl at vrconsulting@greenwood.net for additional information or to volunteer.

Everyone 21 and older is welcome. Advance tickets are on sale now at the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce (110 Phoenix Street), purchase online, or from your Connect YP Steering Committee members.

High gravity” is a term for a type of specialty craft beer higher in sugar content and complex flavors than mass-produced beers or traditional microbrews. High gravity beers are meant to be sipped and appreciated, and even carefully paired with foods as with wine tastings.

For this event, a selection of high gravity craft beers from Highland Brewing Company, Asheville, NC’s first brewing company, will be provided by Howard’s on Main, with each beer carefully paired with a complementary appetizer. Featured pairings include St. Terese’s Pale Ale/Howard’s Chili, Cattail Peak Organic Wheat Beer/Spinach Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette, Oatmeal Porter/Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Gaelic Ale/Southern Chicken Sliders, and a Black Mocha Stout/Gourmet Turtle Cheesecake.

Tickets are only $20, and on sale now at the Chamber or purchase online. Just one ticket gets you in the door for this popular event for multiple samples of both the beers and the appetizers throughout the evening. You do not need to purchase additional tickets for additional tastings. Connect YP and Chamber members may purchase tickets in advance for just $15.

Advance tickets are highly recommended for this very popular evening, as space is limited and the event is expected to sell out.
