Eat Ice Cream for a Great Cause!

Ice Cream Social - Bruster's Window

Kayla Burris-Lim and Christa Hanson know how to "Treat Themselves" for a good cause!

Coming soon we are hosting an “Ice Cream Social for a Cause” on Monday, June 21 at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream.

Stop by and order anything between 5:30-7:30pm and 12% of sales go to Faith Home.

Bring your whole family and invite all your friends; it’s a perfect excuse to “Treat Yourself” as this summer Monday is cooling down! Even if you only have time to pick up a pint on your way home from work, as long as it’s between 5:30-7:30pm it’s for a great cause.

This Ice Cream Social is a Connect YP service event benefitting Faith Home. Coupon booklets will also be available for sale, and direct donations are welcome.

Faith Home is a rehabilitation center for those in our community addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Young Professionals Learn Personal Finance Tips, Bowl for a Cause, and Go Dancing at Tango in the Tropics

Our highlight event for May was Tango in the Tropics, a semi-formal evening of music and dancing upstairs at the beautifully-renovated Greenwood Museum in Uptown Greenwood. Door prizes, good music, themed décor and lots of photos helped make this a great event, one we will consider again for the future. More than 70 people came out to dress up and have fun, and we gained some new members in the process!

Other recent events include Smart Finances for Young Professionals: What You Need to Know, an excellent Professional Development session with Melissa Hull of Countybank, a Saturday roadside pickup for Adopt-a-Highway, and a Bowling Night social event at Expo 300 taking old phone donations to the Sexual Trauma and Counseling Center.

Upcoming events include Roller Skate Night this Thursday, May 21 from 6pm-8pm at the Skateaway USA. This is a social event with all you can skate and all you can eat pizza, for only $5.50 at the door. A personal enrichment session Shag Dancing Lessons is scheduled for May 24, 6pm-8pm at the Federal Building. Price is $5 for members, $10 for non members. An ice cream social night is planned for Monday, June 21 5:30pm-7:30pm at Bruster’s Ice Cream with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to the Faith Home!

Spring Formal & Upcoming Events!

The next not-to-miss ConnectYP community-wide event is the Spring Semi-Formal “Tango in the Tropics on Saturday, May 1, a.k.a “The Prom.” It’s already getting a lot of excitement and support, and it’s taking place in a great space: the newly renovated Greenwood Museum. There will be dance music, photos, drawings, and a cash bar.

Formal attire is NOT REQUIRED. Whether you decide to go all-out black tie, tongue-in-cheek 80’s, or just wear a suit or bridesmaid dress from the back of the closet, we can’t wait to see you there!

CYP Casino Royale a Success!

Casino Night Bankers

Casino Night Bankers from ConnectYP

Our highlight event from March was Casino Royale, an upscale evening of fun and games with proceeds going to A Child’s Place.

The ConnectYP steering committee was delighted to be your hosts for the evening, welcoming you, selling chips and taking photos, and helping out with the auction.

Guests included members of the Chamber of Commerce, many other local business leaders, friendly citizens, and YOU!

The event featured play chip money and casino-style games such as blackjack, craps, poker and roulette.

The end of the evening was a fast-paced live auction for items donated by local businesses, including golf packages, patio plants, and jewelry, with all bidding done using  the play “winnings” from the evening’s games.

More than 140 people came to play and raised over $1900 for A Child’s Place. Thanks to all of you who came out! Be sure to check out all the photos on our Facebook page, and
